POINTS ABOUT STORY OF CRUDE OIL

  • After testing the water samples and finding the report positive, resident has even brought the matter into the notice of Mandi Sub Divisional Magistrate
  • SDM has further sent the samples for testing at ONGC Lab Dehradun.
  • Claim can be true as in 2003-04, ONGC had carried spudding of a well at nearby Dhaban village in search of oil.
  • Ranbir Sipahia, 42, is a resident of Saihal village said that it was on June 19 when he spotted oil in the water when the well was being cleaned up using motors.
  • He said water smelled like fuel and I took the samples to IPH laboratory located in the Balh
  • IPH laboratory found it to be positive, and I then informed the SDM who has sent the samples to ONGC Laboratory in Dehradun for further confirmation
  • After the detection of “oil” in the water, the family has stopped using the well.
  • Family wants the ONGC experts should check the area as there might be an oil source underneath.
  • It was in 2003-04 when Mandi district hogged the limelight following ONGC attempt to dig oil at Dhaban village.
  • According to sources, after starting the spudding work in Dhaban and spending crores, ONGC had failed to find any hint of crude oil underground at that time. In search of oil reserve, digging was done 5,100 metres below the ground before closing the operations on May 15, 2004.
  • Sources said that geologists believe that oil reserves could be present in Balh valley and based on this belief, ONGC had carried spudding of first oil well at Dhaban on December 10, 2003, for which a budget of Rs 42 crore was set initially that later increased to Rs 100 crore due to delay in execution of the project.
  • Village is located some 15km from Dhaban village where ONGC had tried to explore the oil.
  • “Experts should visit the village to find how the oil is coming out of the ground just by digging 10 feet. When I had informed the SDM about the oil coming out of the well, he had directed executive engineer of irrigation and public health department to visit the site and check samples but till date, no one has arrived,” he added.
  • As per a reputed news agency when they contacted, Mandi deputy commissioner Sandeep Kadam feigned his ignorance about the crude oil coming out of the well at Saihal village.
